Got a chance to watch some of the Polish athletes compete yesterday. Justyna Kowalczyk won gold by 0.3sec in Ladies' 30 km, Mass Start Classic a Cross Country Skiing event. It was nail biting. As was Ladies' Team Pursuit in Speed Skating. The Polish team of three beat United States by 1.57sec for Bronze.
Here's the result of my experiment with CHDK. I had a few issues. First, I had the incorrect settings on the camera and the pictures didn't come out the best. Secondly, I had recharge the battery twice during the day. You can notice when I did this by the shift of the image. I get about 6 hours of battery life. I haven't figured out a way where I can turn off the camera between shots. (Maybe a project for the future.) Lastly, there was some snow buildup on the window and the last images did not come out. To make this video I used ffmpeg. I found "19 ffmpeg commands for all needs" and "Making movies from images using ffmpeg/mencoder" very helpful.
A lot of places closed early in Boston out of fear of this storm. We only got a few inches.
Looks like a storm is coming in tomorrow. It will hit NYC first and move up to Boston around 7am.
I've been meaning to try a project with my camera where I load CHDK onto it. I found CHDK through this article on hack-a-day. With the help from a lifehacker article, I'm going to try and catch the day with a picture every five minutes.
I had a serious audio problem on my Linux box and finally figured a permanent solution! The main issue was user permissions. I followed Howto: Linux Add User To Group. Now I don't have to be root to play music through mplayer, and flash videos in my browser now have audio too.
